One of Ganesh’s tusks is broken, because he broke it off in order to transcribe the great Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, for the benefit of mankind. He is depicted as riding a mouse which represents both his great humility, and also the ability of the intellect to find out anything even if it is hidden in a remote hard to reach place.
